BHP: An On-Site Copilot Workshop That Turned a Surveying Team Into AI Agent Builders

Brief

BHP’s surveying team had Copilot access like most large organisations do, but access alone rarely translates into a team that knows how to actually automate its own repetitive work, so we delivered a focused, two-hour, on-site workshop covering Copilot fundamentals and broader AI literacy, with the team building their own working agents live during the session rather than just watching a demo.

AI Advancements ran a training session on CoPilot with our team at BHP on short notice. Sean was very well prepared and knowledgeable on all things AI. Answered all the queries/questions we had with CoPilot and other AI platforms. Highly recommend.

Problem

Rolling out Copilot licences to a team doesn’t automatically translate into a team that uses AI well. Most people default to treating it like a slightly smarter search bar – asking simple questions, drafting the odd email – without ever discovering the tools that let them automate the repetitive parts of their actual job. For a surveying team fielding the same categories of admin and reporting tasks week after week, that’s a lot of untapped time sitting on the table. BHP didn’t need another generic “intro to AI” presentation. They needed a session built around their actual work, that left the team capable of building something useful themselves rather than just watching a demo.

Solution

We ran a focused, two-hour, on-site session for BHP’s surveying team covering Copilot fundamentals, broader AI literacy, and – the core of the session – hands-on agent building, using live example apps built during the workshop itself so the team could see the process end-to-end.

  • Hands-on, not a lecture – the team built working examples during the session, not just watched slides.
  • Taught to build, not just to prompt – the focus was on giving the surveying team the skill to create their own simple agents for their own tasks going forward.
  • Delivered on-site, on their terms – run at BHP’s own office to fit their team’s schedule and context.
  • Scoped tightly and delivered efficiently – a focused two-hour session rather than a padded-out day, respecting the team’s time.

Result

BHP’s surveying team left the session with practical Copilot skills and the ability to build their own simple agents to automate parts of their day-to-day work – moving from passive users of a tool they’d been given, to people capable of extending it themselves. The session landed well, with a positive review left afterward.
